The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville will host the Team Redstone Days of Remembrance Observance 10 a.m. April 29 in Bob Jones Auditorium. The program will feature “The Seasoned Performers,” a touring group of actors based in Birmingham.

The theme for this year’s Days of Remembrance is, “Learning from the Holocaust: Choosing to Act.”

The group will present, “A Slippery Slope: The Consequences of Hate,” an original drama with musical accompaniment. The reading, written by Birmingham Holocaust Education Center vice president Deborah Layman, uses personal testimonies to chronicle the escalating restrictions Jews have experienced from the 1930s until now.

Additional program highlights include musical performances by artists Dr. Alan Goldspiel and Marilyn Pipklin and the traveling exhibit “Darkness into Life” which highlights Alabamians who survived the Holocaust.

Angela Morton, chief of Equal Employment Opportunity at Huntsville Center said the organization wants to use the Holocaust Observance as a teaching moment because there are many lessons to be learned from this period in history.

"The Holocaust was a genocide in which approximately six million Jews were killed by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. People around the world mark Holocaust Remembrance Day with ceremonies, marches and silence to honor the lives lost during World War II, Morton said. "From the Holocaust, we begin to understand the dangers of all forms of discrimination, prejudice, and bigotry; hatred which, in their extreme forms, can lead to mass slaughter and genocide. We can learn a lot from past mistakes. All are invited and highly encouraged to commemorate this historical event."
