Colonel Marvin L. Griffin assumed command of the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, August 15, 2019. The Huntsville Center executes more than 3,000 contracts valued at more than $2 billion annually in engineering, construction and technical services in support of strategic national programs such as the design and construction of worldwide chemical weapons demilitarization facilities, Army and Air Force installation facility repair and renewal construction, national energy savings programs, nationwide environmental and ordnance remediation programs, Army medical facilities design oversight, and overseas contingency operations. 

Griffin graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1994. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from West Point, earned a Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri. His military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses; Combined Arms and Services Staff School; Command and General Staff College; Army Force Management School; and Senior Service College Fellowship with the Secretary of Defense Corporate Fellowship Program and the Southern Company.

Griffin most recently served as the Chief Engineer for the Resolute Support Mission and US Forces-Afghanistan as part of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Kabul, Afghanistan from July 2018 to June 2019.  He commanded the Savannah District, USACE from June 2015 to June 2018, and commanded the 62nd Engineer Battalion (Construction) at Fort Hood, Texas, including its deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan, from July 2011 to June 2013. His troop assignments also include Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer in the 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky, from April 1995 to March 1998; Assistant Operations Officer and Commander of A Company, 40th Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany, from November 1998 to July 2001, commanding A Company during the deployment to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian; and Battalion S-3 and Executive Officer of the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, from July 2006 to March 2009, serving as the Executive Officer for the deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Griffin has also served in a variety of staff assignments. He served as an Instructor and Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at West Point, from June 2003 to June 2005, served as the Deputy District Commander for Little Rock District, USACE from March 2009 to May 2011, and served as the Organizations Branch Chief for the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and TRADOC at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri from July 2013 to June 2014.

Griffin’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal (with oak leaf cluster), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with 5th oak leaf cluster), the Silver de Fleury Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (with oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (with 2nd oak leaf cluster), the Global War on Terrorism Support Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon (5th award), the Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan Campaign Medals, the NATO Medals for Kosovo and Afghanistan, the Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and Ranger Tab.
