Lieutenant Colonel Todd Mainwaring became the deputy commander of the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville Sept.6, 2024. Prior to his current assignment, he was Deputy District Commander for the Nashville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
He received his commission from the United States Military Academy in 2007. After Officer Basic Course in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, Lieutenant Colonel Mainwaring reported to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in 2008. He immediately deployed to Iraq where he served as a platoon leader in downtown Baghdad. Upon return, he served as the Executive Officer of the 101st’s Air Assault School specializing in multiple methods of conveying personnel and equipment from aircraft to the ground.
In 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Mainwaring was selected to serve as the Aide-de-Camp to the commanding general of the Mississippi Valley Division. In this capacity, he responded to one of the largest floods to ever pass down the Mississippi River in the spring of 2011. Following this assignment, Lieutenant Colonel Mainwaring took command of 643rd Engineer Company, 84th Engineer Battalion in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. During his command, he deployed his headquarters to Camp Covington, Guam where they managed small engineer teams simultaneously dispersed across seven countries in the South Pacific where they constructed over 20 projects. In each location, US Army engineers partnered with host nation engineer forces, improved infrastructure, and sponsored vocational training.
After command, Lieutenant Colonel Mainwaring attended graduate school at Stanford University where he studied sustainable construction and energy efficient building design. He applied this education to teaching Civil Engineering at the United States Military Academy from 2016-2019. Following Command and General Staff College in 2020 he joined the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Eglin Air Force Base, Florida as the Group Engineer. In this capacity, he served as the senior engineer advisor to the Group Commander and managed a diverse construction program at home station on Camp Bull Simons and across South America in support of special operations.
Lieutenant Colonel Mainwaring holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy as well as two Masters of Science from Stanford University (Civil Engineering and Management Science). He is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, the Aviation Captains Career Course, and the Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC). Lieutenant Colonel Mainwaring is PMP certified and a licensed Professional Engineer.
