    Scholarship fund opens doors to space adventure

    Walking across the stage at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Space Camp graduation Friday, the possibilities before the two were endless. Possibilities they might not otherwise have seen growing up in Meadow Bridge, West Virginia, where the population is less than 400, at least a quarter of which lives below the poverty line, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

    STEM outreach going strong at HNC

    Webb is just one among many at the Huntsville Center who, over the years, has felt called to reach out to local schools to reinforce the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields to the nation’s future. Huntsville Center has participated in in close to 20 such STEM events in the last three years.

    West Virginia boy gets Space Camp opportunity

    When retired Lt. Col. Russ Dunford’s family asked him what he hoped to find under the Christmas tree last year, Dunford knew that his grandmother’s old adage had finally come true – “At some point in your life you make the mental transition that it’s better to give than receive.” Dunford wanted to give the gift of opportunity to a young man or woman growing up in southern West Virginia, where Dunford was born and raised. He wanted to send them to Space Camp.

    U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville participated in the First Baptist Child Development Center & Academy science fair March 17. Six volunteers judged more than 95 group and individual projects that were created by students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
