    Kenny Hall, son of Ray Hall, Huntsville Center engineer, signed a letter of intent Dec. 15 to attend the Naval Academy where he will play football. Kenny’s athleticism and his academic achievement (4.17 grade point average) led to 10 scholarship offers with six coming from Ivy League schools.

  • Jesus Ramirez, Program Manager with Huntsville Center’s Fuels Program, recently completed Auburn University’s Competitive Professional Development Training Program in Building Construction. The certification program is a professional development partnership between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Auburn University. By participating in the program, Ramirez earned enough course hours to receive a master’s in construction management.

    Certification program leads to academic degree for project manager

    Jesus Ramirez, Program Manager with Huntsville Center’s Fuels Program, recently completed a certification program that not only enhances Ramirez’ ability to contribute to Huntsville Center’s mission, but also added an academic degree to his accomplishments.

    The new $5 million Blanket Purchase Agreement allows additional REM contract awards and four additional contractors (for a total of seven contractors) increasing the availability of REMs to meet the REM program’s progression.

    Ground breaking signifies Corps of Engineers’ Huntsville Center move onto Redstone Arsenal

    The new 205,000 square foot facility is expected to be a purpose built, three story building allowing the Center to consolidate its off-post leases, consolidate the Center's workforce, and provide a more secure environment for the Center's staff.

    Arthur Martin, director of Installations Support and Program Management at U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, was recognized with an award for outstanding service and notable achievements during the 41st annual Department of Defense Disability Awards ceremony.

    ISPM director honored with DOD Disability Award

    Arthur Martin, director of the Center’s Installation Support and Project Management directorate, was one of only 21 servicemembers and civilians with disabilities to be recognized for their contributions to the DOD mission. The awards honor those whose attributes best epitomize the qualities and core values of their respective military department or DOD component, said Clarence Johnson, director of the DOD Diversity Management Operations Center.
  • Subject matter experts from the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, joined other U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Redstone Arsenal and Small Business Administration personnel to participate in the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Huntsville Post’s virtual Small Business Forum Oct. 20.

    Huntsville Center’s Utility Energy Services Contracting program was the solution to the Navy’s requirement as the Center’s UESC program encompasses a broad range of energy conservation measures providing its customers flexibility to specifically tailor a project to a customer’s energy needs.

  • Huntsville Center closes out FY21 with more than $1.9 billion in contract actions

    Due to ongoing COVID-19 safety precautions, Huntsville Center completed the fiscal year virtually for the second year in a row. Despite the challenges, the Center’s more than 1,000 employees delivered the program with outstanding success.

    Huntsville Center architect earns top USACE honors

    The award recognizes Douglas Kohns, senior architect at the Medical Facilities Mandatory of Expertise and Standardization, for his architectural leadership and support of numerous Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs medical programs, but the award specifically highlights his more recent contributions to the COVID-19 relief efforts. Kohns developed the national architectural design standard for the alternate care sites and community vaccination centers that were quickly designed and constructed across the nation in a matter of months.
  • “Value engineering is a vital part of how we deliver projects and meet the needs of our customers, so it was crucial that all of our programs complete the workshop,” said Carlos Reis, value engineering officer. Huntsville Center's Value Engineering Program offered its last five VE workshops virtually in order to follow social distancing guidelines while ensuring the highest level of quality and efficiency.

    VE program stays course despite COVID shutdown

    The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way Huntsville Center does business, but it has not changed the business we do. For the Center’s Value Engineering (VE) Program, that means implementing innovative solutions to continue helping the Center’s programs provide high-quality work in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Through collaborative workshops to evaluate methods and processes, the program increases value and stretches taxpayer resources by proactively searching for and resolving issues. The Corps of Engineers requires all Huntsville Center programs to conduct a VE study once every five years.

  • Workers install portions of the 8.5 megawatt-per-hour battery system at Fort Carson, Colorado. Huntsville Center’s Energy Savings Performance Contracting program coordinated the project designed to reduce peak electricity use costs, especially during the summer cooling season.

    The workshop assists in helping the Army achieve mission effectiveness and achieve mandates imposed by laws and Department of Defense regulations by integrating energy programs, initiatives and activities.

    A decision by the Small Business Administration to immediately suspend a requirement for construction contracts is a boon to the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville’s ability to contract with 8(a) companies.

    SBA policy decision improves ability to include socially, economically disadvantaged small business

    Since the Small Business Administration is suspending the requirement, 8(a) businesses are more competitive in the contracting award process.

    AMC deputy chief of staff visits Huntsville Center

    A senior civilian at the Army’s primary logistics and sustainment command visited the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville Aug. 10 to learn more about the Center’s capabilities and programs. Huntsville Center leadership presented Dr. Juanita Christensen, deputy chief of staff for logistics (G4), facilities and environmental at Army Materiel Command, a capabilities briefing focusing on the specialized technical expertise and global engineering solutions the Center deploys through its centrally managed programs.
