    Energy project provides resilience for Fort Irwin

    Huntsville Center’s Utility Energy Services Contracting developed the contract vehicle which provides for a 21-mile dedicated natural gas pipeline and a 16 MW combined heat and power plant for on-site energy generation at Fort Irwin capable of maintaining critical loads indefinitely during an electric outage.
  • Of the 979 Federal Employee Viewpoint Surveys administered to Huntsville Center employees, almost 682 completed the survey for a response rate of 69.9 percent, the second highest response rate in USACE.

    The Office of Personnel Management’s Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, conducted throughout the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in June and July, measures employees' perceptions of whether, and to what extent, conditions characteristic of successful organizations is present.

    Small Business Industry Day draws large crowd

    The event featured a general overview of doing business with the Huntsville Center and covered major regulatory changes and upcoming acquisitions, followed by an opportunity for attendees to interact directly with program managers and contracting officials for the Center’s more than 40 programs.
  • Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Soldiers inventroy equipment delivered under a U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville contract developed to provide equipment and materiel to 43 Army Brigades around the world transforming to the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness campaign.

    Huntsville Center originally stood up the MO&T Program to support large Army replacement hospitals like Fort Bliss at a cost of $100 million. However, MO&T has outfitted medical projects as small as $400,000, and routinely provides medical outfitting support for all project sizes in between.

    BaseOps program supports Big Red One

    The BaseOps program consists of executing defined services structured around preventive and corrective maintenance. The objective is to preserve and maintain systems in such a condition that they may be effectively used for their designated functional purpose.
  • A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers geophysicist operates equipment used to detect and classify metal objects in the subsurface as potentially a target of interest, such as a munition.

    Munitions response programs improve with technological advancement, training

    In August, the EMCX hosted a technical training seminar for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers geophysicists focused on familiarization of simultaneous location and mapping, or SLAM, technology that will increase mapping production rates in thick vegetation where previously only tape measures or line-of-site robotic total station (RTS) technologies were available.

    Huntsville Center’s Human Capital and Resource Management Business Practices Division team built the first ever online “Welcome2IT” dashboard to simplify in-processing procedures. The site and process was recognized as one of the five 2022 U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s Innovation of the Year Awards.

    The Tom Bevill Lock and Dam near Alliceville, Alabama, is one of 10 lock and dam structures on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway to receive retrofit and replacement of lighting systems from Huntsville Center’s Energy Savings Performance Contract program.

    Energy program saves money, resources for USACE districts

    Huntsville Center’s Energy Savings Performance Contract program has been reducing energy use and water consumption at military installations since the mid-1990s. Over the last several years, the ESPC has also developed contracts to support U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works programs around the country.
  • Ryan Strange, Huntsville Center Unmanned Aircraft Systems Research Physical Scientist, pilots an unmanned aviation system aircraft at Redstone Arsenal, Ala.     U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville employees receive a site briefing by a SunPower Corporation contractor before visiting a solar array construction site on Redstone Arsenal in 2017. Projects like the Arsenal’s The 10 MW solar array with a 1-MW storage system undergo reviews by the Center’s Energy Resilience and Conservation Investment Program validation team before they are submitted to compete for Department of Defense funding.

    Kenny Hall, son of Ray Hall, Huntsville Center engineer, signed a letter of intent Dec. 15 to attend the Naval Academy where he will play football. Kenny’s athleticism and his academic achievement (4.17 grade point average) led to 10 scholarship offers with six coming from Ivy League schools.

  • Jesus Ramirez, Program Manager with Huntsville Center’s Fuels Program, recently completed Auburn University’s Competitive Professional Development Training Program in Building Construction. The certification program is a professional development partnership between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Auburn University. By participating in the program, Ramirez earned enough course hours to receive a master’s in construction management.

    Jesus Ramirez, Program Manager with Huntsville Center’s Fuels Program, recently completed a certification program that not only enhances Ramirez’ ability to contribute to Huntsville Center’s mission, but also added an academic degree to his accomplishments.

    Ground breaking signifies Corps of Engineers’ Huntsville Center move onto Redstone Arsenal

    The new 205,000 square foot facility is expected to be a purpose built, three story building allowing the Center to consolidate its off-post leases, consolidate the Center's workforce, and provide a more secure environment for the Center's staff.
