    After a vehicle hit a fuel dispenser, causing damages to it at Fort Hood, Texas, the quality assurance evaluator requested an emergency service order to assess/survey the damages and complete the required repairs. The contractor responded within 24 hours and completed the assessment, cut and capped electrical and fuel lines, installed a new dispenser, and returned the fuel dispenser to its normal operation.

    Program helps installations with fuel operations, repairs

    DLA-Fuels Program is an effective recurring maintenance and minor repair program that increases the reliability and safety of facilities, system and components. This increases the useful life of facilities and equipment resulting in optimizing the life cycle of the fuel system and components, thereby increasing the duration between required re-capitalized investments.

    Huntsville Center awarded a $12 million Energy Savings Performance Contract to save energy and funds spent on energy at the U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Systems Center in San Diego, Calif. Highlights of the work performed by the contractor included water conservation measures, chilled water air conditioning upgrades, a heating and hot water retrofit, upgraded air handlers, electronic control systems and lighting upgrades at 3 million square foot, 225 building campus. The total expected energy cost savings is $23 million during the 19-year term of the contract.

    Navy’s SPAWAR sees reduced energy costs with Huntsville Center’s Energy Savings Performance Contract

    The U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Systems Center Pacific used a Huntsville Center Energy Savings Performance Contract to reduce energy costs. The ESPC model used at Huntsville Center is an agreement between the government and an energy service contractor which provides capital and expertise to make comprehensive energy and water efficiency improvements on facilities or implement new renewable energy capabilities and maintains them in exchange for a portion of the generated savings.

Darcy and Kate Brandt, Federal Environmental Executive, White House Council of Environmental Quality, visited the Mobile District lock and dam Jan. 21 to learn about their energy and sustainability efforts with the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville. Through the first-ever Energy Savings Performance Contract for a civil works project managed by Huntsville Center, Mobile District is retrofitting and replacing lighting at 46 locations along the 234-mile waterway, which will result in guaranteed savings of more than $172,700 in the first year alone.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, is executing a holistic energy portfolio management approach for helping Army organizations and other federal agencies achieve federal energy mandates, reduce energy consumption and enhance energy security.

    A public meeting Feb. 12 in Centreville, Mississippi, will provide interested individuals with information about a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers investigation for potential munitions at the former Camp Van Dorn, a 41,544-acre Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) located in Wilkinson and Amite counties, Mississippi.

    One of two wind turbines on Fort Buchanan stands next to one of its many solar installations. The two wind turbines will produce an estimated 5 percent of the energy consumed by the installation, and a total of 21,824 solar photovoltaic panels will produce about 5.5 megawatts of power, which is at least 60 percent of the installation’s current power demand at its peak production.
