    Solar photovoltaic renewable power to be installed at Lake Shelbyville

    The Lake Shelbyville recreation area in Illinois management noticed several facilities using more electricity than they should, generating higher than normal electric bills. To combat these issues the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District reached out to the Huntsville Center to provide expertise with the installation of solar photovoltaic renewable power.

    Huntsville programs team up to ensure power for chemical demilitarization operations in Pueblo

    The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville's Chemical Demilitarization and Utility Energy Services Contracting programs teamed up to build a third substation that will be used to power the Pueblo Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant and the Pueblo Chemical Depot mission support in Colorado.

    Huntsville Center Commander Col.     Support to Medical Command results in award for Huntsville program manager

    In a room full of his co-workers, one U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Support Command, Huntsville, program manager received recognition for his support to the U.S. Army Medical Command in the form of the R.B. Maynor Award. This is the first time a USACE employee has received this annual award.

    West Virginia boy gets Space Camp opportunity

    When retired Lt. Col. Russ Dunford’s family asked him what he hoped to find under the Christmas tree last year, Dunford knew that his grandmother’s old adage had finally come true – “At some point in your life you make the mental transition that it’s better to give than receive.” Dunford wanted to give the gift of opportunity to a young man or woman growing up in southern West Virginia, where Dunford was born and raised. He wanted to send them to Space Camp.

    In honor of the Women’s Suffrage Movement, Team Redstone is celebrating Women’s Equality Day 1:30 p.m. Aug. 23 in the Bob Jones Auditorium on Redstone Arsenal. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville is the lead for the event. The celebration will include a tribute to “Rosie the Riveter” and special guest speaker Lee Marshall, who will also perform an original song.

    Cyclist helps kids pedal through rough patches

    A Facilities Division Branch Chief at the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, turned his mountain biking hobby into a way to give back to the community. Through the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, Steve Goolsby is a certified head coach and encourages kids to keep pedaling through rough terrain, whether it is on the bike path or in life.

    Center welcomes new commander

    Huntsville Center began another chapter in its storied history July 29 as Col. John S. Hurley assumed command from Lt. Col. Burlin Emery.
  • Active Vehicle Barriers installed at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico can prevent passage of vehicles when engaged. The Air Force is using a Huntsville Center’s Access Control Point (ACP) multiple award task order contract (MATOC) to ensure barrier preventative and corrective maintenance and emergency repairs are preformed by contractors, freeing up personnel from the base's civil engineer and security forces Airmen to focus on higher priority tasks more associated with their career fields.

    The Air Force is taking advantage of 15 years of experience by using a Huntsville Center contracting vehicle to ensure sustained security at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico.

    Helping at ‘pop-up’ medical clinic hard work for Corps volunteer

    “Rewarding, surprising and a lot of hard work,” is how William Noel, a project manager at the Corps of Engineers Huntsville Center describes his work volunteering at a “pop-up” medical clinic operated by “Your Best Pathway to Health” July 12-14 in Beckley, West Virginia. All medical, dental and other services were provided without charge, and volunteers paid their own travel and lodging expenses to participate.
  • Huntsville Center is considered the Army’s expert in Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC).

    Huntsville Center helps Aberdeen Proving Ground create innovative facility

    The culmination of innovative thinking focused on conservation and sustainability was realized July 19, during the official opening of the new Combined Heat and Power plant on the Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground. The effort was achieved through collaborations with the Huntsville Corps of Engineers and energy saving partnerships with defense contractor Johnson Controls and Baltimore, Gas and Electric, BGE.

    These guide specifications, pertain to Electronic Security Systems and Electronic Security System Acceptance Testing. The guidance includes the requirements security systems must meet and procedures on testing the systems once those requirements are met.
  • Airmen and Soldiers observe operations from range control facility June 8 during Red Flag-Alaska 16-2. A 9.5 million U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville Base Operations Program maintenance and operational services contract ensures facility maintenance support for Fort Wainwright garrison as well as structures located on the Donnelly and Yukon Training Areas and the Black Rapids Training Site. The Donnelly and Yukon Training Areas are part of the Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex that provides a realistic training environment allowing U.S. and multi-national military unit personnel to train for full spectrum engagements.

    BASEOPS contract supports Fort Wainwright garrison, covers Alaska training ranges

    A $9.5 million U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville Base Operations Program (BASEOPS) maintenance and operational services contract calls for maintenance and operational services for all facilities and subsequent facility systems, components and equipment on Fort Wainwright, Alaska, as well as the 670,000 acre Donnelly and 260,000 acre Yukon Training Areas that are part of the 67, 000 square mile Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC) .

    Huntsville Center awarded a task order June 29 for contract closeout services using a strategic contract vehicle issued by Washington Headquarters Services. This task order was funded by Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy and awarded to National Industries for the Blind, through the AbilityOne Program.
